2022 Career Talk Series
Saturday, 20 Aug 2022
The inaugural Career Talk Series was launched in 2018 which was held at the Monash University Campus Malaysia. However, this annual event was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic but in 2021, the MAAC managed to pull off the 2nd series of the Career Talk at the UCSI University Campus with minimum attendees as the event was live streamed over all our social media platforms.
Fast forward to 2022 and the Career Talk Series Immersion Program was held at the Sunway University campus on 20 August 2022 (Saturday). The event was supported by the Australian High Commission in Malaysia, the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) and the Australian Department of Education.
It was a successful event with many parents and their year 10 – 12 children attending this once-a-year program. Sponsored by the University of Adelaide and the Victoria University, we had 2 alumni from the respective universities speaking about their experience while studying in Australia. Representing the University of Adelaide was Mr Ong Jit Seng who is also the current President of the University of Adelaide Alumni Chapter in Malaysia while Natalie Loi represented the Victoria University.
Apart from the welcome speech from the MAAC President, Ms Pat PW Yeoh, Ms Fiona Morris, the Councillor for the Australian Department of Education also spoke about studying in Australia. Ms Khoo Tang Wooi from AECC Global, a reputable Education Agent Counsellor and one of the Malaysia Australia Colombo Plan Commemoration (MACC) Scholarships Partner presented the pathway to studying in Australia including the options available. The MAAC also took the opportunity to share the availability of the MACC Scholarships for 2023 intake and had our MACC Scholarships Ambassador, Datin Ainsley Tiew to enlighten us her education experience as one of the MACC Scholarships recipients and how it has changed her life.
There were quizzes with prizes to be won throughout the session and an info bag with goodie tokens from our university and partners that were given out to all attendees. The session ended with Dr Jason Cheok from Victoria University sharing the opportunities available at the university and the collaboration with Sunway College. After the session, those who were interested in a physical tour around the campus were led by the appointed student ambassadors. The event was graced by the Director of Sunway Berhad, Puan Sri Datin Seri (Dr) Susan Cheah who is also one of the Honorary Advisor to the MAAC.
