Data Protection Notice

This Data Protection notice serves as an integral part of the terms and conditions of all events/ programs offered by The Malaysian Australian Alumni Council and its hosting organisations (hereafter referred to as “The MAAC”) which may have required you to provide your personal data for the registration to attend the events/ programs offered. For the purpose of this Data Protection notice, “Personal Data” is any information related directly or indirectly to an individual who is identified or identifiable from that information or from that and other information that The MAAC possesses. The MAAC is fully committed to protecting the rights and privacy of individuals, in accordance with the following general Data Protection principles:

1. General Principle

The MAAC shall not process your personal data unless you have given consent to the processing of your personal data. “Processing” means collecting, recording, holding or storing your personal data or carrying out any operation or set of operations on your personal data.

By providing your personal data to MAAC you have agreed to give consent to MAAC to process your personal data for the stated lawful purposes when your personal data was collected.

2. Notice & Choice Principle

For each event/ activity under The MAAC such as Scholarship applications, Alumni related events, etc, you will be notified in writing of the lawful purposes for which your personal data is collected and whether it is obligatory that you provide your personal data.

By providing your personal data to The MAAC for any of The MAAC’s events/ programs, you have given consent to The MAAC to process your personal data for the registration and attendance of the stated The MAAC events/ programs. You have also being given an option to receive information about future events/ programs, news or promotions.

3. Disclosure Principle

The MAAC shall not disclose any of your personal data for any purpose other than the above stated purposes disclosed at time of collection. The MAAC shall not disclose to any other third party without your consent.

4. Security Principle

The MAAC shall take practical steps to protect your personal data from any loss, misuse, modification, unauthorised or accidental access or disclosure, alteration or destruction.

5. Retention Principle

The MAAC shall not keep your personal data longer than is necessary for the fulfillment of the lawful purposes to which it was obtained for. The MAAC shall keep your personal data not more than 7 years from the date of collection.

6. Data Integrity Principle

The MAAC shall take reasonable steps to ensure that your personal data is accurate and relevant only to the lawful purposes to which it was obtained for.

7. Access Principle

The MAAC shall give you access to your own personal data held by The MAAC so that you are able to check and correct any inaccuracies, incompleteness, misleading or not up-to-date.
