Cocktail reception in honour of the visiting Australian Parliamentary Delegation
HE Mr Rod Smith, PSM, Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia hosted an evening cocktail reception in honour of the visiting Australian Parliamentary Delegation headed by the Hon. Bruce Scott, who is the MP and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives on Monday, 7 April 2014.
Executive Committee of The MAAC were among the 50 invited guests to the event and were honoured to be mentioned by HE Mr Rod Smith, as an important organisation in building bilateral ties between Australia and Malaysia.
In his speech addressing the guests, The Hon. Bruce Scott MP introduced the members of the delegation which included federal members from various states in Australia. Among them are Mr Ken Wyatt, MP and federal member for Hasluck, and Mr Alan Griffin, Federal member for Hon. Bruce Scott.
Mr Bruce Scott highlighted that the special ties between our two countries dated back decades ago and had since grown stronger as time passes especially in business and education. According to him, during the recent disappearance of Malaysian Airlines MH370, Mr Tony Abott stressed that Australia as a whole nation, regardless of political houses, will provide full support and assistance as long as it is needed.
Some of the topics of discussion among the delegation and the guests during the evening included the reverse Colombo Plan and the delegation’s sitting in our parliament session earlier in the day which they saw some interesting debates about the implementation of the GST.
The delegation has since arrived in Malaysia from Philippines, as one of the few stops which the delegation is visiting as part of their ASEAN tour. Their next stop is Brunei and they will be meeting the Sultan of Brunei before ending their tour to return to Australia.
