Australia Day Celebration 60 Years of Australia-Malaysia Friendship
The Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, H.E. Mr Rod Smith PSM and Ms Leanne Brueckner hosted the Australia Day reception at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on 27 January 2015. About 1,000 distinguished guests were invited to celebrate with the Australian High Commissioner the 60 years of Australia’s presence in Malaysia, since 1955. The highlight of the event was to honour the strong bonds of friendship shared between two nations.
The Malaysian guest of honour was Minister of Human Resource, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Richard Riot James, who represented the Malaysian Government.
The opening ceremony by Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia H.E. Mr Rod Smith delivered the opening of his speech in Malay and in his speech he acknowledged The MAAC as Australian High Commission’s organising arm of the Australian universities’ alumni in Malaysia. At the end of His Excellency’s speech, guests gave a toast to the health of the ruling monarchs of Australia and Malaysia, and the national anthems of two countries were sang by the Kuala Lumpur Children’s Choir.
The reception served as a great platform for The MAAC team to network with guests from a myriad of industries and to also enjoy the finest Australian produced beef and lamb, including a sumptuous seafood feast, and an array of sweets including Australia’s famous lamington cakes.
