Go Kart

The MAAC’s signature event, its annual Go-Kart Challenge, zoomed off on Saturday, 24 August 2013 at City Karting Circuit, Shah Alam. A total of 8 teams participated in the Challenge representing their university alumni chapter. The air was filled with sparks of friendly university rivalry. “It’s no surprise to me. We are in our 13th year this year, and every year, there is a friendly banter on which university will take the podium,” said Adrian Ong, Vice President of Alumni Relations of The MAAC.

In attendance and as guest of honour was Ms Susan Kahwati, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner of Austrade Kuala Lumpur who gave a short speech. At the flag off at 9.45 am Ms Kahwati with her husband and her lovely daughter, accompanied by Pat PW Yeoh, President of The MAAC and Nicole Lim, General Secretary of The MAAC, circled the circuit setting the endurance race off for the next hour.

The weather was very encouraging as the sun came out to greet the participants with enthusiasm and provided them a better morale boost and determination to win the race. While participants raced, others in attendance cheered on for their team including Ms Kahwati and her daughter, for her husband and father, respectively, who raced in the Curtin alumni chapter team.

After approximately 46 rounds, at 10.55 am, the race ended and everyone waited anxiously for the results. The 2013 Go-Kart Challenge winner was the returning Champion of 2012 – Monash University Alumni Chapter.

The MAAC prepared takeout boxes of vegetarian nasi lemak and mineral water for brunch and guests took the opportunity to network. It was yet again, another successful event for The MAAC. The MAAC couldn’t have done it without the support of City Karting Shah Alam, Austrade, Kuala Lumpur, and The MAAC Committee. Thank you all for your generous support. We shall see you again next year!
