UTAS Malaysian Alumni celebrate 125 years in style

Over 130 Alumni from the University of Tasmania gathered in Kuala Lumpur recently to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the university. Held on Thursday 12 March 2015 at the Le Royal Meridien Hotel, this special cocktail event was expertly hosted by prominent university alumnus, former government minister and current Chairman of Bloomberg TV Malaysia, Dr Tan Sri Dato Seri Effendi Norwawi. He related his wonderful experiences and fond memories while studying during his University days in Tasmania.

On the night, a wonderful speech was given by the University’s Executive Director of Advancement Mr Young Dawkins and a moving toast was proposed by former prominent former politician and University of Tasmania graduate Dr Tunku Adbul Aziz. Mr Young thanked The Malaysian Australian Alumni Council and others for their help in promoting and publishing this reception to all Australian graduates so that more graduates can attend and share the celebration of University of Tasmania 125 years of success. The MAAC was represented Mr Adrian Ong, Vice President of Alumni Relations.

A highlight of the evening was the Malaysian premiere of the University’s new short film; Open to Talent that has been commissioned by the university to depict and celebrate it’s past, present and exciting future.
